New Haven Chargers Secure First Division I Win Against UAlbany
The New Haven Chargers achieved their inaugural NCAA Division I victory by defeating UAlbany 24-17. The Chargers established a commanding 24-0 lead in the first half, primarily driven by junior quarterback AJ Duffy, who threw three touchdown passes. Although UAlbany mounted a strong comeback in the second half, New Haven's defense held firm to maintain their lead. Duffy completed 23 of 35 passes for 180 yards, while UAlbany?s senior quarterback Jack Shields threw for 396 yards but faced significant pressure, resulting in two interceptions and a late-game sack that thwarted their final drive. Despite UAlbany's offensive advantage in terms of total yards, New Haven's early lead proved crucial. This victory marks a significant milestone for New Haven as they transition into the Division I FCS landscape after a successful Division II tenure. Following this win, the Chargers are set to return home for their next matchup against Saginaw Valley State.
